Cochabamba

Since the 1930s, the region of Cochabamba has experimented the continous migration of the population from Altiplano (growing going poverty, " boom of the coca extract ", harder and harder working conditions in mines and Andean farms). The new migrants, used to the traditional methods of culture of the mountain, have applied unadapted methods in a tropical context to the new lands, where the ground and the climate are different. These not sustainable practices and the more and more numerous cultures led to a massive deforestation and production. The consequence of the above has been the small producers to be closely interested in a better preservation of their lands, and in 1994 a first program of reafforestation was developed in the Cochabamba project. The objective of Pure project is to support the farmers in the reafforestation of their lands by developing collectively systems perfectly adapted to the regional tropical conditions. So, the objective is to develop integrated agricultural systems which join introduce efficient agricultural methods and sustainable
